DEAR
DIARY BY BARRY QUINN
April
22nd 2004
Well I leave tomorrow
from Florida to go to Toronto for a week and a couple
of shows , then off to England.
It's taken a lot of phone calls, emails, letters etc etc to get this
Canada/UK
tour together, I never thought everything would come together.
Theres so much more to a wholigans show than the 2 hours+ you see
us on
stage, we have to talk to agents who in turn talk to venues time and
time
again trying to get the band a gig.
We have to arrange flights, transport ,gear to play on (as we don't
travel
with our own) there are work visas to get, tax forms to fill out,
promo to
send yada yada yada yada..you name it....we do it.
Until I/we set
foot on that first stage of the tour and hit that first note
, the stress is still in us.
But when we crank that first song , the relief is unbelievable that
everything worked out.
This tour we have
very little time off in 3 weeks apart from flying time ,
but you know what ?
I feel incredibly lucky and extremely grateful that I ..a 45 year
old fart
is travelling around the world and getting to get on stage and share
the
experience/ sensation/the awesome music that is THE WHO!
All the work,
all the travelling, all the sleeping in cramped places, all
the stuff on the road that tests you is all worth it.
'I can't explain' but I am living a dream and keep expecting to wake
up
anytime.
Theres a couple
of new places this time around for us , one being a place
called Kidderminster and apparently there are nothing but Who fans
who live
there !
I hope we survive the madness.
We are returning
to my hometown Newcastle and I am so looking forward to
that , as last time they all welcomed myself and the band back like
prodigal
sons.....I love you Newcastle. ..Howay the lads !
(love you mum & dad)
Expect a few european
shows in the near future in places you would never
expect to see us.
I'm so glad The
Who is touring a few dates this year and hope to see them in
NYC, I'd love to hear from anybody in the uk that saw the recent shows.
I'm planning on
keeping a daily diary entry for every show in the uk and
will post it in June.
This tour The Wholigans are
me
darren...drums
gator/dave...bass
bones..guitar
Special thanks
go out to HIWATT UK for supplying the gear and to our agent
Nigel at Moneypeny in Yorkshire for putting this together, and to
all The
Who fans that still care enough to keep the music alive .

louder than everything else'
